SJI makes submission to the UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of assembly in Ingushetia

SJI sent a submission to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the freedom of peaceful assembly concerning the detention and pending trials of 7 activists from Ingushetia who were arrested following their participation in protests in March 2019 in the context of an ongoing internal border dispute between the Russian regions of Ingushetia and Chechnya. The 7 activists and public figures have been charged with inciting mass riots and are being held in pre-trial detention in Nalchik and Vladikavkaz.
